SERVICE DETAIL

Cultural Brokerage Program

The CCIS Cultural Brokerage Program is a partnership between CCIS Family and Children’s Services Division and the Government of Alberta’s Children & Family Services (CFS). This CARF Accredited program was developed in 2014 to provide enhanced culturally responsive services for immigrant families involved with CFS. This is achieved through the engagement of Cultural Brokers who act as a liaison between immigrant or cultural families and CFS, supporting effective communication and ensuring cultural safety.

Who We Are

A culturally responsive team of professional Brokers with extensive multicultural knowledge and settlement experience.

What Do Cultural Brokers Do?

Our Approach

We offer holistic support for child, family, and community development and cultural transition into Canada.

As a resource and referral hub, we aim to effectively identify and meet the cultural needs of immigrant children, youth and families from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds.

Our brokers provide client-focused supports to ensure culturally responsive services to improve quality of life.

We seek to develop, expand, and strengthen community collaborations, networks, mentorship opportunities, and programs to address needs of families within their ethnic community.

Who Can Access Our Services?

Families and children are referred to the CCBP by Calgary and Area Child and Family Services.

I was asked to translate for Spanish-speaking parents whose English language was limited. I helped build a bridge between the workers and the family and helped them to establish a good connection and relationship. After the meeting, the family was satisfied with the resources they got and were glad they were able to communicate effectively with the workers and have their feelings and problems completely understood.
